Kxd1 { surfnsuds: Ya think? } 6... Bd7 7. Qxh7 Nh6 { Archr: This variant is mind-numbing. Material advantage is not all that important at first. } 8. Qc2 { surfnsuds: It is one of my favorites. I lost that Q becuase I failed to follow my main rule... } 8... Nc6 { Archr: Whots that rule? } 9. g3 { surfnsuds: You have probably already figured it out... but I'll tell you after the game! } { KidKing: the queen! } { Archr: I think I just did: try all pawn captures first. If they don't work, no harm done. If they do, much harm might be meted out. } 9... e5 10. Bg2 { surfnsuds: Yes, that is it exactly. I have another rule which is a little less likely to help. } 10... Rxd2 { surfnsuds: Hey I needed that piece! } 41... Kc5 { Archr: "Hey I needed that piece!" hehe } { Archr: 2 to 3. Do you have enough to mate me? I'll accept a draw. } 42. Bd3 { surfnsuds: If I get lucky and kill your non-king, yes, I think I can mate you. } { surfnsuds: If you kill one of mine first, then I think it is a draw for sure. } 42... Kd6 43. Kd1 Ke6 { Archr: This is my first kriegspiel to go to the bitter end, so I will be happy to see how it plays out. } { Archr: Going to England! } 44. Ke2 f5 45. Ke3 Ke5 46. Re2 { surfnsuds: England! Hey, did you meet up with any SM folks there? What did you see and do? I'd love to go there some day. } 46... f4+ { Archr: No. I tried to arrange it. I missed one because he works. The other because I caught a 24-hour bug. I was on church business plus some sight seeing. I went to Saltburn by the Sea (along the North Sea coast in Northern England). Weather was brisk; but mostly dry. Lovely. (Homes were a bit too dear and the cars -- some of them were smaller than my suit coat.) 2 and 3 course meals served properly by dignified (and friendly) staff 3 times a day. Food was not overabundant; but, far more than I feared. (I have a strong appetite!) All in all I hope to go back in ~7 years or so when the rotation put England back on the intinerary. Next time, I hope to bring my bride. } 47. Kd2+ { surfnsuds: What kind of rotation are you talking about? } 47... Kd4 { Archr: Where we meet. We usually meet domestically. We expect to go back to Merry Old England in about 7. } 48. Be4 { surfnsuds: I see. Well, sure sounds good! } 48... f3 49. Re3 f2 50. Rc3 f1=Q 51. Rf3 Qd3+ 52. Bxd3 { surfnsuds: Now what? } 52... Ke5 { Archr: Whoops! } 53. Re3+ { surfnsuds: Well, now I have to figure out if I can really force a checkmate. Not sure if it's possible even if I could see. } 53... Kd5 54. Re1 Kd4 { Archr: Can you still do it? } 55. Bf1 { surfnsuds: Not sure. } 55... Kd5 { Archr: Whoops. I hadn't noticed your pre-emptive answer when I asked my question. I hope it works out for you - though I refuse to co-operate ;) } 56. Bd3 { surfnsuds: In regular chess, I think I do not have enough power to force mate. In this variant, well, maybe I might get lucky. And maybe not. } 56... Kd4 57. Re4+ { Archr: K+B can do it - in regular. N+N would need my help. I hope you don't think ill of me, but I patently refuse to help :) } 57... Kd5 58. Kc2 { surfnsuds: Then I ought to be able to make it happen, wiht or without your help! Of course the real trick will to be to avoid stalemate } 58... Kc5 59. Kb2 Kd5 60. Kc2 Kd6 61. Kd2 Kc5 62. Ke2 Kd5 63. Kf2 Kc5 64. Kg2 Kd5 { Archr: We could go for the longest game. Kg4 { surfnsuds: I was enjoying your exchange with the big cat in the features forum! } 66... Kd5 { Archr: I had just resigned after a blunder and a desperation move that CT deftly parried. Then he goes and says that! (I hope nobody takes my threat of unsportsmanship seriously.) } 67. Kg5 { surfnsuds: Well it was a funny read in any case! } 67... Kc5 68. Kg6 Kd5 69. Kg7 Kd6 70.
