Nc3 { Mortadulo: Hello again my friend :) } 1... d5 { edg: Hi! I guess this gives me another chance at dealing with this Van Geet opening of yours. I haven't had much luck so far. } 2. e4 { Mortadulo: It is definitely a very mundane opening which gives black equality almost immediately. It is however an opening that brings very unique positions in (most of the time) a very positional game. It is more useful OTB than in correspondence due to the large lead you normally gain on the clock. Often times you never make it out of the opening phase before you have a slight advantage since nobody studies it. It is what you would call "solid yet lacking ambition" since it requires a blunder or a small series of "weaker" moves in order for either side to gain an advantage. } 2... dxe4 { edg: I find it very easy to misjudge the knights and commit blunders that turn into major problems. } 3. Nxe4 { Mortadulo: That balance on power between bishops and knights are really important in positional play that cause many really strong players to misjudge the position. Certainly an area all players can improve on! } 3... f5 4. Nc3 e5 5. Bc4 Nf6 6. Nf3 Bd6 7. Ng5 Rf8 8. Nxh7 Rh8 9. Ng5 Rf8 10. O-O c6 11. d4 e4 12. f3 g6 13. fxe4 fxe4 14. Ngxe4 Nxe4 15.
