I vaguely recollect a Nimzo-Indian Defence going badly wrong for me against you in a previous game. Are you well? How is Finland? } 1. e4 c6 { Olli Ylönen: Finland is fine and i'm fine, waiting for spring to seriously start. How's England? } 2. d4 d5 { BlueMooner: I am fine too thanks. England is slowly but surely warming up. It has been a long winter although not unpleasant; something to do with climate change (no doubt) affecting the jet stream. One of my staff used to live in Finland. Whereabouts in Finland do you live? } 3. Nc3 dxe4 { Olli Ylönen: I live in Mikkeli, it's about 200km from Helsinki to northeast. Population about 50000. } { BlueMooner: Okay, cheers for that. I will ask where Kate whereabouts she was in Finland (unfortunately; or fortunately depending on the perspective I am off work for the rest of this week having a much needed break so I won't be able to ask her until next week. For the record I am in Bolton, England about 16 km from Manchester in North West England; population 140,000 for the record! So you will be near, to what was, the Russian border; is that right? } 4. Nxe4 Bf5 { Olli Ylönen: Russian border is not far away, maybe less than 200 miles. But i haven't been ever in Russia. Have you? } { BlueMooner: No I have never been out of Europe. I have seen quite a bit of Western Europe though. Furthest East I have been was Prague in 1994. I am not sure I would want to go to Russia whilst Putin's gangsters are in charge anyway! } 5. Ng3 Bg6 { Olli Ylönen: I don't have either any plans to go to Russia ever :) } 6. h4 h6 7. Nf3 Bh7 { Olli Ylönen: Do you have a big companyt and lots of workers others than Kate? } { BlueMooner: We have nearly 40 staff; which sounds impressive doesn't it? I suppose it is to a certain extent. We achieved our first £1 million in turnover this year. I run a transcription services company (we work in the legal sector for the police, courts and justice system) providing transcripts from audio or audio/visual recordings. What do you do with your 'spare' time, i.e. when you are not playing chess!! } 8. h5 Nd7 { Olli Ylönen: Sounds impressive indeed! I work in a hospital as a nurse. In fact i'm "working" right now. Patients are old people and are sleeping. } { BlueMooner: Well it's probably not as impressive as it sounds. And, like most things in this life, it is who you know and not what you know that makes your luck. In this case my Mum was a Court Reporter and transcriber and I basically took on her small business from her home. We had a bit of luck along the way and for now things are going okay but nothing lasts forever and I dread and foresee the day when Google or Apple invent a 'transcription solution' thus eliminating us overnight...but that will be progress for some and not so good for me so meanwhile we try to do as well as we can! Anyway, I would have more chance for chess if and when it happens! } 9. Bd3 Bxd3 { Olli Ylönen: What's your best achievement in chess? } { BlueMooner: British Chess Champion, 2008 in Liverpool.................................................................................minor section!? You? } 10. Qxd3 e6 { Olli Ylönen: ICCF SIM norm 2012 } { BlueMooner: I think you may have trumped me there. ICCF is correspondence chess; is that right? What does SIM stand for? The girl who works for us used to live in Akaslompolo, Yllas which apparently isn't far from Swedish border... } 11. Bf4 Qa5+ { Olli Ylönen: Correspondence chess it is. SIM= Senior International Master. Between IM and GM. Girl was in Lapland. I haven't been there. } 12. c3 Ngf6 13. b4 { BlueMooner: The correspondence SIM sounds like quite an achievement. Presumably that is correspondence chess without computers? As I believe some correspondence chess players are allowed to use PC's which all seems rather pointless to me. } { BlueMooner: Also, is Lapland part of Finland; sort of like Scotland being part of the United Kingdom etc.? } 13... Qb5 { Olli Ylönen: Lapland is like West Midlands in England. } { BlueMooner: Que? How so? Have you ever been to the West Midlands? Famous for a concrete jungle & the spaghetti junction because so many motorways intertwine themselves there! I thought Lapland was snow, rudolph and snow } { BlueMooner: Great attacking plan of mine... } 14. Qxb5 cxb5 { Olli Ylönen: Adminstration area. Scotland is propably too close to be its own nation. } 15. Ne2 Nb6 16. Ne5 Rc8 17. Rc1 a6 18. f3 Be7 19. Kf2 Nbd5 20. Bd2 O-O 21. Nf4 Nxf4 22. Bxf4 Nd5 23. Bd2 Bg5 24. Bxg5 hxg5 25. Ng6 fxg6 26. hxg6 Rxc3 27. Rce1 Rf6 { BlueMooner: You busted 23.Bd2? pretty good. Well played. } { Olli Ylönen: Thx for the game! } 0-1
