Well, I have enjoyed our games so far so I am not complaining, you play tough :) } 1. e4 e5 { Adunatos: You ain't seen nothing yet :). Good luck! } 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 { MichaelDV: A bit busy at the moment ... } 3... a6 4. Ba4 Nf6 5. O-O { Adunatos: On a trip to Rome with school. Sorry I have so many delays! } 5... Be7 6. Re1 b5 7. Nf5 Ne5 { Adunatos: How did you do at the Championship? } { MichaelDV: Thanks for asking. I scored 6½/13 and finished 7th in a group of 14. Had problems finishing off the games, wasted some wins .. } 21. Rg3 { Adunatos: Going to Italy, see you in two weeks! } 21... g6 { Adunatos: I gather from your tone that you're not too satisfied with your overall result? } 22. Nf3 { MichaelDV: Well it was not a disaster. But I could easily have scored 1-2 more points had I kept my cool in some time scrambles, etc. :) .. } 22... Ned3 { Adunatos: Interesting you should bring that up. Do you find that playing correspondence chess, whilst it is probably benificial for your decision-making, makes you ponder on your moves longer than before and therefore increases the likelihood that you will find yourself in time-trouble in OTB games? This seems to be the case for me. } { MichaelDV: Interesting theory. I've heard that you spend a lot of time in your OTB games when you are improving, since you don't want to play bad moves, or make the same mistakes you've made in the past. I didn't have a lot of time-trouble in the above mentioned tournament, but I didn't handle those I had too well. Maybe I need to be cautious, there might be something in your theory, that corr games affect how you spend your time in OTB games. } 23. Qd2 Nxe1 { Adunatos: It certainly worked that way for me. My playing strength used to be around 2000, but in the last two tournaments I played in I scored a TPR of around 2300! I used to blitz out the moves, so perhaps I've finally learned to manage my time. Time will tell if I just got lucky or if correspondence chess really made me dramatically stronger. One thing that I learned is that I should spend more time pondering my moves, so I'm gonna try and apply that theory to CC now too. } { MichaelDV: When I was younger (11-12 years old) I always blitzed my moves out hoping for the best :). Now I almost play a bit too slowly sometimes, although I think I spend my time quite wisely. I think the reason I sometimes play too slowly in OTB games is that I'm having troubles trusting my own calculations, which is partly why I decided to spend some time on CC. } 24. Nxe1 Nxd5 { Adunatos: I think you've done the right thing :) } 25. Nxh6+ Bxh6 26. Qxh6 Qd4 { Adunatos: Dear opponents, I'll be away for the weekend, enjoying the city of Bruxelles. I'm sorry for the delay, but I should be able to make moves and respond to any messages by Monday. Regards, Julien. } 27. e5 { MichaelDV: I hope you have a good time! Have never really been to Belgium, just went through it with car, the whole country is quite insipid to me :) .. By the way, I might have missed some important information or do we still not know when the ICCF CL is starting? } 27... Re6 { Adunatos: Yes Michael, having a great time! (still there :) ) The CL is supposed to begin in October, that's all I know and, frankly, all I need to know for now. } 28. Nf3 Qd1+ { Adunatos: It seems I have lost myself in complications. } { MichaelDV: Haven't we all .. } 29. Kh2 { MichaelDV: Just skimmed through your profile. I agree, NiC Magazine is brilliant! :D } 29... Ne3 { Adunatos: Isn't it? :) Michael, once again I have to apologize for the quality of my game. Once I get my number of games down to an acceptable total, I'll be happy to play you again - and whipe you off the board, of course. :) I could resign here, but I'm going to play on for a few more moves. } { MichaelDV: Don't apologise, you should consider not joining more events for a while, though :) .. Especially with the ICCF games starting } 30. Bxe3 Qxb1 { Adunatos: I haven't joined any in two months, I think :) Good luck in the CL! } { MichaelDV: By the way, am contemplating playing an OTB event in Haag 16-18 november. Is Haag (or The Hague, as the English call it) any nice? Would be cool to go to Holland .. } 31. Ng5 { Adunatos: Yes, Den Haag is a nice town. It's not too far away from where I live, but I've only been there twice, I think. Have you played abroad before, and if so, where? } 31... Qf5 { MichaelDV: Yes, I played for the Swedish U-20 national team in the "Fournations Cup" in Helsingör, Denmark, the 15-17 december 2006. We played Denmark, Germany and Norway (please don't ask me how I did individually :)). Sweden won the tournament! } 32. f4 { Game Over: This is hopeless. Once I get my worload down, I would very much like to play against you again, to prove that I can play chess too :) } 1-0
