This is the best performance individually in the ICCF World championship by any player from our shores. Richard has now secured another final qualification to attempt to become World Champion in a future final and he will receive his silver medal at the ICCF Congress in Poland this July. Adrian Hollis † RIP

Monday, March 18, 2013

CC Grandmaster Adrian Hollis died on February 26, 2013 at the age of 72. He was one of Britain's strongest ever CC players winning the British CC title 3 times (once jointly). He was awarded the Grandmaster Title in 1976 following his victory in the Potter Memorial which, at that time, was the strongest ever CC tournament organised by Britain including many overseas GM's and one World Champion. He was a strong OTB player in his younger days competing for the British Championship on several occasions withy his best performance being 7th in 1961. In the 1980's he was consulted by Korchnoi on certain chess openings in which he was considered an expert.

(The book on the "Potter Memorial" written by Ken Messere is still available from us - price £5.00 only including p & p to UK addresses. Overseas prices upon request). See Online Fee payment on the left & quote "Potter book")

British Webserver Team Tournament - Season 2!

Wednesday, March 06, 2013

The 1st season of the British Webserver 4-player Team tournament has now finished. Congratulations to “Pawn Stars” (Captain Austin Lockwood, Michael Millstone, John Rhodes, Gino Figlio) for winning the Championship! Well played!  Season 2 now begins!

The following teams are guaranteed a place in Division 1, subject to entry: Pawn Stars, ICCF Warriors, BCCA Kings, BCCA Griffins, Scheming Mind A, Scheming Mind B, Plastic Bishop.
The following teams are guaranteed a place in Division 2, subject to entry: White Rose Axioms, Sussex Servers, BCCA Knights, White Rose Proofs, Social CCA, Grantham Kings, Scheming Mind C.
Please note that a team can only retain its divisional place for the following season providing at least two members of that team played in the previous season. If more than two players are changed, that team will be regarded as a new team.
Season 2 will get underway on May 20, 2013 and I would encourage all Team Captains & Organisers to take part & enter teams. If you are a player, please let your Team Captain know that you are interested in playing again. 4 players per team; to be organised (dependent upon entries) into 7- team divisions with 6 games per player. Promotion/relegation with 2 up/2 down each season. New teams will probably start in the lowest division, but spare divisional places will be filled at the organiser’s discretion. It is therefore possible that a new team may start in Division 2 or even Division 1 although this cannot be guaranteed. Team average ICCF rating will be used as a guideline in this situation.
The Champion team will receive Medals or Trophies. 10 moves in 40 days. Playing Time 18 months. Start Date 20 May 2013 so plenty of time to organise teams. Last Date for Entries May 10, 2013.
Any group of 4 players can get together to form a team; teams can represent particular bodies (such as BCCA, Natcor, Civil Service or SchemingMind) or they can be totally independent. At least two members of each team must be British but the other team members can be from anywhere!

If your personal situation does not allow you to easily become a member of a team, then please contact me (Neil Limbert) and I will do my best to find you a team, or even make up a team from such players. So nobody need miss out!
For the full Rules see here:- http://www.bfcc-online.org.uk/british-webserver-team-tournament/british-webserver-team-tournament-rules

Anybody wanting further information should contact Neil Limbert (neil.limbert"at"tiscali"dot"co"dot"uk) .

Team Entry Fee £20 (Effectively £5 per player so you will be paying less than an equivalent ICCF tournament) **Please note BCCA members wishing to be part of a BCCA team should pay on the BCCA website
Team entries can be made by sending a cheque (payable to “BFCC”) to Neil at his home address (6 Milner Avenue, Penistone, Sheffield, S36 9DB) OR by paying online at this website. This is TEAM entries only: I do not want individual payments of £5 each unless specifically confirmed by me.
